PIAGGIO 1, THE NEW PREMIUM ELECTRIC SCOOTER FROM PIAGGIO
Piaggio officially discloses details about its revolutionary new electric scooter “Piaggio 1”. The brand new model is designed in Italy and created with a focus on quality, technology, reliability, and safety. It will have bright colourways, efficient and sustainable technology, a user-friendly focus, and a competitive price position as the convincing factors. The Piaggio 1 will be available from November in the UK with prices starting at £2,500, ready to revolutionize electric urban mobility.
Piaggio 1 is a global Piaggio Project that aims to improve and simplify daily urban commuting. The model is inspired by the Piaggio tradition to create simple, yet revolutionary mopeds, combining efficiency with fun. First and foremost, this means safety, thanks to a solid frame and suspension designed for riding pleasure, but also an attractive design ensuring comfort and high-level rideability.
The Piaggio 1 will be available in two different versions in the UK :
Piaggio 1 – RRP £2,500
The Piaggio 1 will have a top speed of 45 km/h, range of up to 55 km in ECO*, up to 48 km in SPORT (WMTC cycle). This model complies with moped regulations, with a power output of 1.2 kW and a top speed of 45km/h, allowing 16-year-olds to ride them.
Piaggio 1 Active – RRP £ 3,000
The 1 Active has a top speed of 60 km/h, range of up to 85 km in ECO*, up to 66 km in SPORT (WMTC cycle). This is a scooter-spec model with a 2 kW power output and a top speed of 60km/h. The rider can select ‘ECO’ or ‘Sport’ mode while using the Piaggio 1, where the former prolongs battery life by limiting speed to 30km/h, and the latter uses the full power of the motor. With an efficient kinetic energy recovery system (KERS) that charges the bike during deceleration, both versions of the Piaggio 1 guarantee outstanding range.
The Piaggio 1 also features a range of technological features, including a 5.5” digital colour display with a sensor to adapt the background and luminosity to ambient conditions, full LED lights, a keyless start system, and two motor maps. The e-scooter is also very light, without sacrificing a refined chassis architecture, with the Piaggio 1 weighing 75kg without the battery, and the 1 Active weighing 79kg. Significant attention was paid to ergonomics, and the seat-footrest-handlebar triangle follows the exact same proportions as traditional Piaggio scooters. This translates into a comfortable low-seated riding position at 770mm above the ground, as well as a flat and spacious footrest.
Additionally, it’s the only e-scooter in its category providing a spacious compartment below the seat.
Recharging couldn’t be easier, with no special maintenance or precautions required, the lithium-ion battery can be removed in seconds and recharged by simply connecting it to the supplied battery charger at home or in the office. A complete recharge usually takes six hours, and delivers excellent efficiency for up to 800 full recharge cycles. After this, it retains 70% of capacity and can still be used perfectly well. The 1 uses a 1.4 kWh battery weighing 10kg, while the 1 Active model uses a larger 2.3 kWh battery weighing 15kg.
The sophisticated chassis uses the same technical solutions as traditional Piaggio scooters: the frame is a high-strength steel monotube with pressed steel elements. The suspension system uses a single-arm fork with coil spring and hydraulic shock absorber at the front, and a dual hydraulic shock absorber at the rear. Braking is smooth and powerful with a large 175mm hydraulic disk brake on the front and rear. The 1 Active is also equipped with a CBS combined braking system.
The Piaggio 1 is available in a dual colour range: Forever Grey, Forever White, and Forever Black underlie the scooter’s essential design; Sunshine Mix, Arctic Mix, and Forest Mix are two-colour liveries that enhance its fresh, youthful energy. These colour ranges are available in all three versions.
The launch of this new model is a statement from Piaggio, confirming its positioning on the importance of e-scooters in the near future. Urban and metropolitan mobility is an ever-changing landscape, and Piaggio will be part of this significant new step in the industry as one of the biggest manufacturers in the world. The launch of this qualitative, reliable and easy-to-ride model is the first step of many.
